The treatment plan
There are many reasons a tooth may need removal. These include, but are not limited to, extracting baby teeth that have difficulty falling out on their own, removing teeth for orthodontic treatment, or extracting teeth due to pain or infection.
A dental extraction typically requires only one office visit and is performed by a dentist. Here’s how we carry out the procedure:
Looking for Solutions
You might think that extraction is the only option or that it is unavoidable, but there may be alternatives that can provide relief while preserving the tooth. Our goal is to keep you healthy, relieve your pain, and save your tooth whenever possible. Before any tooth is removed, we will carefully examine you and discuss all of your options.
The Removal Process
The dentist will use a local anesthetic to numb the area around the tooth to be removed, depending on your preference and comfort level. Sedation may also be available if necessary. We use a minimally invasive technique to remove teeth gently, ensuring you feel as comfortable as possible and recover quickly.
Feeling Better
After your extraction, you will be given detailed aftercare instructions on how to care for your mouth as it heals, what to expect, and what steps to take if any complications arise. We will also be happy to schedule a follow up appointment to address any additional concerns.

About an hour after your procedure, you can remove the gauze pads placed in your mouth and have something to eat. For the first 24 hours, eat soft foods and avoid hot foods. Do not drink through straws for several hours.
We will provide you with personalized aftercare instructions during your appointment. Here are some general guidelines to help minimize complications and encourage a quick recovery:
- Avoid spitting, mouth rinsing, blowing your nose, using a straw, or smoking in the first 24 hours after your extraction
- Do not touch the extraction site with your finger or tongue
- Avoid hot foods and drinks
- Do not take aspirin, as it can interfere with blood clotting
- Avoid physical activity and exercise
It’s best to take three or four days of rest or light duty after your wisdom teeth are removed. Resting helps minimize your risk of complications and aids in healing. Full recovery typically takes around two weeks, with minimal discomfort during this period.
